Do it for
YOURSELF, do it YOUR way. Take advice that is good for YOU. Never give up.
Nobody ever died from quitting
smoking. It's tough but it's do-able. You won't believe any of us until you do
it for yourself. And then see how great it feels.
Never give up!! If you think you
want a cigarette say I will not smoke for the next minute. CONTINUE AS NEEDED,
YOU CAN DO IT!!!! STAY STRONG!!!!
Pledge Daily: Take the hand of other
members, pledge not to smoke for just that day, and make it smoke-free, one day
at a time!
I've found the daily pledge and any
other non-smoking slogans very helpful.
Each and every day- PLEDGE- promise
yourself...ONE DAY AT A TIME- JUST TODAY!!
Know your enemy (cigarette) for what
it is, and have no fear! Look your enemy in the eye and know him for death. He
offers nothing in return. You gotta wanna!
Join the pledges and tell yourself,
"I will not smoke today." Find a buddy, or several, and stick to the
Q. NOT ONE PUFF EVER! (N.O.P.E.)
Just do it! Don't wait 44 years like
I did.
Stay with the Q!
Make Q buddies.
Check the forums as often as possible, and post support for others, because it
helps you stay quit!
Don't give up on yourself!
You can't quit because someone tells
you to. You have to quit for yourself and no one else. If you don't want to
quit, you won't, plain and simple.
Cigarettes deliver nicotine, and
that addition is easy to break. Poisoning your body, smelly hair, wasting
money? You can totally stop this!! I did.
Each time you want a cigarette, ask
yourself a question.... what do you love more, your family and yourself, or the
cigarettes?
Smoking really DOES NOT do for me
what I thought it did - smoking actually does the opposite! It takes away- it
doesn't give me ANYTHING!!
Just do it- you can learn to like it
later! And you will. Cold turkey, patches, whatever works for you. Your most
important choice, ever, is simply to not smoke.
It may seem silly at first, but
write a 'goodbye old cigarette' letter and keep it on you.
It really helps to say so long and farewell - I want to live!
Baby steps! Take one day at a time,
one craving at a time. Don't focus on what lies ahead, that will make you
crazy. Baby steps!
If you can just make it through one
craving at a time, you too can Keep The Quit!
Warning... coping by smoking will
not help you resolve your problems. You'll just create a new one along with
everything else.
I remind myself that my kids might
someday have to ask someone else what I was like. Yup, the craving goes right
away.
Quitting smoking is not just
overcoming the urge to smoke... it's taking back control of your life, and
embracing a much healthier one.
Repeat: "This too..shall
pass."
Pray your butt off to God !!!
Don't let yourself get 'all worked up.'
~ REPLACE YOUR HABIT !!!
Find someone who inspires you (Barb Tarbox).
What can I say? Take it one step at
a time. There's no other way to make the journey than to put one foot forward
and press on.
Gather all the information and
resources you can. The Q is such a life-saver. Stay close and read and post as
much as you can. You can do this!
YOU CAN DO THIS. You just have to do
it, and we will be with you every step of the way. See you there!!
It's a hard step to make, I can't
say it will be easy to go through, but with support from your family, friends
& places like QuitNet anyone can quit.
Share- Post- Eat pretzels - Breathe
Know that a sickarette is not going to make any situation better.
If you've quit and 'failed' it's not
a failure because you've TRIED. And you've learned something. Quitting is about
practicing quitting until you get it.
Don't be afraid! Of peer pressue, of
failure... of anything! Practice does make perfect! As long as you are serious
about quitting, you will. You just have to really want to.
Find your reason to quit and quit
for that reason only. For me, that reason was the expected birth of my 2nd
child.
It's a hard step to make, I can't
say it will be easy to go through, but with support from your family, friends
& places like QuitNet anyone can quit.
To my fellow EX-smokers, if you're
worried about gaining weight - DON'T! You can always lose weight, but you can't
lose lung cancer.
And from
me: If
you want to make big changes in your life, don’t expect results overnight. It
takes a while for those changes to become a habit, and then to become second
nature.
