Six "Steps to Success" ?
a 7 month ramble

(but I do not know who's ramble)

I've borrowed the "Steps" from Greta VAn Susteren, but the commentary is mine. I think these steps will be valuable to all those starting a quit tomorrow. I wish you success!

1. Learn from your experiences and move on.
When you begin this journey, you will have many new experiences. The one it took me several tries to learn is when the craves hit. Hit the Quit. There's always (24/7) help here to keep you from slipping.

2. Choose your battles wisely.
Stopping smoking is the battle to win. Don't let anything stand in your way of winning. Use whatever aids you need. (Gum, Candy, Cheetos, Skittles, whatever.) Don't worry about your weight. That battle can be fought later if necessary.

3. Develop good judgment.
You are showing great good judgment in beginning a quit. Don't look back. I did that on several previous attempts. I really thought I had "given up" something. Now I know I have an option and I CHOOSE not to smoke.

4.Stretch yourself.
Stopping smoking is the first stretch, but soon you will feel confident to try all kinds of new styles, activities, ideas. You will find yourself a really new person. I know I did.

5. Be ready and willing to work hard.
Quitting smoking is the hardest thing I've done, and will, no doubt, be the hardest thing you've ever done, but IT CAN BE DONE. Just be willing to pay your dues.

6. Know when and where to draw the line.
Know your triggers and avoid them. Is it coffee? Switch to tea. Is it alcohol? Avoid it until you feel strong. Is it strong feelings of anger, frustration, sadness? You may experience feelings that surprise you because you are becoming a new person ? a non?smoking person ? a person free from an odious addiction.
