Having to "control" your drug of choice means that it
is already out of control. We don't need to control substances in our life that
aren't out of control.
I don't have to control
my intake of ketchup. I like it, but I'm not addicted to it. But If I start
making rules about my ketchup intake...watch out! If I start limiting it,
timing it, cutting down, or making excuses about it, I think you could safely
say there is a problem with ketchup and I.
So who are we kidding? If we could control our smoking we would
all be social smokers with very minimal intakes. And we wouldn't be here at the
Q.
Once we are addicted and out of control, there is never any way
of regaining control. The Law of Addiction states that re-administration of the
drug of choice, in any amount, and in any form, causes instant re-addiction in
an addict. So the best we can do is stop putting the addictive substance into
our body, one day at a time. Total abstinence is required if freedom is our
desire. When total abstinence is maintained over a long period of time we are
said to be in "sustained remission". We are never "cured"
of our addiction. But we can put in on hold forever if we choose.
Don't take that FIRST puff and it is physically impossible to
fail! Don't take that FIRST puff, just for today, and you are absolutely,
positively, 100% guaranteed to go the bed a WINNER tonight!
